Ultimate Peru & Bolivia Tour

Arrival in Lima. Reception and transfer to your hotel.
Day 2: Lima (B)After breakfast, full city tour of modern and colonial Lima, declared a UNESCO world heritage site in 1991. Tour in an air conditioned bus with a bilingual guide. The tour includes a visit to the Cathedral, Main Square, San Francisco Convent and its Catacombs, and the residential areas of San Isidro and Miraflores. Free afternoon.

Day 3: Lima - Ica (Breakfast)After breakfast, private transfer to Ica, some 4 hours south of Lima. A visit to the local and the Huacachina lagoon, which is located just 5 miles west of the city of Ica. A natural oasis in the middle of the white sand of the desert. The emerald green waters, arose because of the outcrop and underground flowers. Around it appeared abundant vegetation consisting of palms, eucalyptus and typical guarangos, serving as a rest area for migratory birds passing through the region.

Day 4: Ica - Nazca - Lima (Breakfast)After breakfast, transfer to the airport for the flight over the spectacular Nazca lines, gigantic drawings and figures engraved in the desert, some of which are over 2000 years old. Return to to Lima and overnight.

Day 5: Lima - Cuzco (B & D)After breakfast, flight to Cuzco, reception and transfer to the hotel of your choice. Afternoon guided visit of the four ruins nearby; the Sacsayhuaman Fortress overlooking the city of Cuzco, a pre Inca architectural masterpiece; Kenko, a rock sanctuary whose main attraction is the monolithic altar representing a puma, the red Fortress of Puca-Pucara and Tambomachay, a beautiful fountain fed by a spring forming a series of basins continue to the city of Cuzco; the Main Square, the Cathedral and the Koricancha or Temple of the Sun. Dinner and folkloric show in the evening.

Day 6: Sacred Valley (B & L)Full-day excursion to Urubamba, the Sacred Valley of the Incas. Visit the village of Pisac, founded during Colonial times. On Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays the Indians barter their products, and artisans from all over the area sell their woven alpaca wool blankets and ponchos, engraved gourds, antique reproductions and jewellery. On Sundays, it is also the meeting place for the local Mayors of the region, who come dressed in their traditional costumes, to attend morning mass. After buffet lunch at the Tunupa Restaurant, a visit to Ollantaytambo, the only Inca town which is still inhabited. Explore the ruins above Ollantaytambo before returning to your hotel.

Day 7. Cuzco - Machu Picchu - Cuzco (B)Early morning wake up to catch the train to Aguas Calientes and begin your tour of Machu Picchu. Built by the Inca Pachacutec, and comprising stone blocks fitted with masterful precision, Machu Picchu harmoniously blends into the mountain landscape. There are many theories as to the origins behind Machu Picchu but three of the most popular ideas include a temple to the sun, a fortress against the jungle inhabitants and a sanctuary for the Incas. This fabulous city holds houses, temples, warehouses, a large central square and all connected by narrow roads and steps, which is surrounded by terraces cut into the mountain side which were used for agriculture. We shall visit the Main Plaza, the Royal Quarters, the Temple of Three Windows, the Circular Tower and the Sacred Sun Dial and Burial Grounds. After the guided tour, return to Cuzco.

Day 8: Cuzco - Arequipa (Breakfast)After breakfast, transfer to the airport for the flight to Arequipa, the most beautiful city in Peru. Free day at leisure in the city. Overnight accommodation.

Day 9: Arequipa - Colca Canyon (Breakfast & Lunch)After breakfast, we drive through some wonderful scenery towards the Colca canyon, witnessing groups of wild alpacas, vicuñas and guanacos in their natural habitat. Arrival to Chivay, the main town of the canyon in time for lunch. Transfer to your hotel, located in the canyon itself. Free afternoon for personal leisure.

Day 10: Arequipa (Breakfast)An early start to visit the Colca canyon, the second deepest canyon in the world (the deepest canyon lies only a few kilometres from here). We shall also have an opportunity to see the huge condor, the world's largest flying bird before returning to Arequipa. Overnight accommodation.

Day 11. Arequipa - Puno (B)After an early breakfast, tourist bus to Puno. Lying on the shores of Lake Titicaca, the highest navigable lake in the world, Puno is also the folkloric capital of Peru. Accommodation at your hotel.

Day 12. Lake Titicaca (B, L & D)Full day excursion to the islands of Uros and Taquile. Uros, a group of islands made entirely of tortora reeds is home to a small community dating back to a pre-Inca culture. The inhabitants of Taquile are more closely related to the Aymara people of Bolivia than the Quechua Incas of Peru. Basic lunch on the island prepared by the local inhabitants. Overnight stay on the island of Taquile in local Aymara Indian homes.

Day 13: Lake Titicaca (B)This morning you will remain on the Taquile island with an afternoon return to Puno and your hotel.

Day 14. Puno -Copacabana- La Paz (B)After breakfast, transfer to the bus station for the tourist bus to La Paz. Cross the border, after the formalities, continue onto La Paz and transfer to your hotel.

Day 15. La Paz (B)Morning city tour of La Paz, with a unique topography containing few flat areas and protected by its eternal guardian, the snow peak of Ilimani (6402m). Housing the seat of government, La Paz is a city of contrast, between both ancient and modern. A visit will also be made to the Valley of the Moon. The city centre sites include the Plaza Murillo (with its presidential palace, national congress and metropolitan cathedral), museums, and many interesting markets. Free afternoon.

Day 16. La Paz - Tiahuanaco (B)After breakfast, visit to the site of the oldest civilisation in Bolivia. Tiahuanaco was the centre of a very powerful empire stretching back to before 500BC. Excavations are still in progress but many stone ruins including the sungate and central square are in excellent condition. Return to La Paz.

Day 17. La Paz - Oruro - Uyuni (B) (Wednesday, Friday and Sunday departures only)After breakfast, departure by local bus to Oruruo, some three hours sough of La Paz. Boarding of the train for the journey south to the town of Uyuni. Arrival at night and transfer to your hotel, Girasoles. Overnight stay.

Day 18. Uyuni - Salar de Uyuni - Ojo de Perdiz (B, L & D)After breakfast, we meet our crew and set off in our jeeps north towards Colchani. Colchani is a village that lives off the Salt production on the Salar. We will see how they mine and process the salt with their rustic instruments and tools. From Colchani we will drive west into the great Salar de Uyuni. Stopping at the Salt Mounts where the locals dry the salt before they process it. Next we will drive into the blinding whiteness of the Salar and head towards the Isla Incahuasi. This is the official visitor's island on the Salar. Here we hike around one of Bolivia's most amazing sites. The surreal island surrounded by a sea of salt is home to huge cacti, some over 1000 years old. As well as a stranded colony of Vischachas (hopping rabbits akin to the chinchilla family). After hiking on the 'Island', a packed lunch before continuing towards Ojo de Perdíz, visiting en route 'la Gruta de las Galaxias' (famous for its geological formations). We will arrive to the Hotel Tayka Del Desierto for dinner and accommodation.

Day 19. Ojo de Perdiz - Laguna Colarado - Laguna Verde - Villamar (B, L & D)After breakfast, we traverse the incredible desert and apprecaite the interesting formations such as the rock trees along with witnessing llamas, vicuñas and the small rabbit like rodent, the vizcacha.
We enter the National Reserve of Andina Eduardo Avaroa and visit the magical Laguna (lake)Colorada, with its beautiful red coloration due to the accumulation of sediments and specific algae present in the water. Box lunch is included.
The lake is of vital importance for the survival of 3 different species of flamingos in the area We continue the trip and visit the Sol de Mañana, famous for its geysers and volcanic activity. We finally arrive to Laguna Verde (greeen), an incredivle mirror like lake of emeral brilliance, most noticable in the morning and afternoons. The colour is due to the presence of magnesium in the algae.
Close to the lake you will be able to see the Volcano (5,868 m.)
Continue the journey onto Villamar and your lodge where you will have dinner and accommodation.

Day 20. Villamar - Uyuni (B & L)After breakfast, we shall depart Villamar towards Uyuni visiting enroute the valley of the rockes, famopus for their gigantic rock formations. We shall pas through the towns of Alota, Kulpina K and the mining town of San Cristobal. Box lunch is included. Arrival to Uyuni and rest and accommodation.

Day 21: Potosi - Sucre (B)Return by bus to Potosi, the highest city in the world and onto Sucre, the judicial capital of Bolivia. Transfer to your hotel.

Day 22: Sucre (B)After breakfast, enjoy a city tour. Free afternoon.

Day 23: La PazAfter breakfast, transfer to the airport for the flight to La Paz and onward for your connecting flight home.
