ITINERARY
Day 1 LIMA - No Meals today

Arrive into Lima airport, exit customs and baggage, assistance with your luggage before escorted to your hotel in a private vehicle. Your hotel in Lima will be the 5 star Marriott Hotel. Free evening.

Day 2 LIMA - IQUITOS (Breakfast & Dinner)

After breakfast, free morning. Midday transfer to the airport for the flight to Iquitos. Arrival at approximately 5PM, collect your luggage and board the air conditioned bus for a scenic one and a half hour drive to the small village of Nauta, where your luxury vessel, the M/V Aria lies at anchor. You will settle into your over-sized cabin.

There are two cabins available where one will function as a triple with 1 sofa bed. These fully air-conditioned cabins comes complete with panoramic glass windows. Your cabin also comes complete with a private bath, shower, 24 hour hot water, a hairdryer, and a basket of luxury toiletries. The fine Peruvian linens, with a high thread count will help you sleep very soundly after each day's excursion.

All meals are prepared by Executive chef Pedro Miguel Schiaffino, one of Lima's culinary stars who has created a menu that draws on both Peruvian and European influence. Wine is included with meals, giving you the opportunity to experience a range of the finest South American vintages. Over the next few days, you will sail along in total comfort over several tributaries of the Amazon River, as well as on the mighty river itself. A safety drill and briefing on the top deck, before the journey begins and you settle down to some fine dining on the Amazon River.

Day 3 MARANON RIVER- PACAYA SAMIRIA RESERVE (All Meals) - Itinerary subject to change

After breakfast, board your skiff to explore the Yanallpa, an amazing black water stream which is part of the huge Amazon flooded forest. Learn about the rainforest and explore what scientists call a 'gallery forest' - an area of narrow vegetation which creates a tunnel of leaves. As you float through the tunnel, you can see parrots, macaws and the fluffy monk saki monkeys that inhabit this area. After lunch back on the ship, enjoy a jungle walk and village visit. You will be introduced to native people doing subsistence farming and will tell you how they learned to cultivate wild plants and trees to earn farm income. You will travel deep into the forest and discover a wealth of fruit trees and medicinal plants hidden in the jungle.

Day 4. TACSHA RIVER- PACAYA SAMIRIA RESERVE - SAN MARTIN DE TIPISHCA (All meals)

After breakfast, choose from two itineraries. Option one, enjoy a full day excursion deep in the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve, along the Samiria River. Along the route you will have the opportunity to see various species of monkey, such as squirrel monkeys, howler monkeys and saddleback tamarin monkeys, plus many bird species including blue, yellow and scarlet macaws, toucans and river hawks. You will arrive at the PV2 Tascha watchpost, where you follow a path deep into the rainforest. Enjoy a generous picnic lunch, before heading back to the vessel. Option two, spend the morning with a Naturalist Guide who will inform you all about sustainable resource management projects in Amazonia, and will take you to one of these projects, where villagers are planting palms to obtain oil. You will then be taken deep into the jungle, where you will encounter wildlife and learn first-hand about the important medicinal value of many jungle plants. After lunch onboard the vessel, set off for a late afternoon skiff excursion. Keep your eyes peeled to the jungle canopy where you might catch a glimpse of several kinds of primates, alligators, as well as over 200 species of birds. As the sun sets, you may even spot, tree boas, caimans, tarantulas and frogs. Return to Aria for dinner.

Day 5. IQUITOS - LIMA (Breakfast)

After your final breakfast, take a morning excursion along the Amazon. See how people live along the river by floating in skiffs through the lively riverside community of Belen. Here, at certain times of the year, the houses and shops actually float on the river. You can visit the bustling market, which is where food for the entire Peruvian Amazon is traded. In the late morning return to the ship to pack up and enjoy a final lunch on board. In the afternoon there is a city tour of Iquitos and a visit to the Manatee Rescue Centre, where Biologists and volunteers care for endangered Amazon manatees. You will learn how the manatees are prepared for release back into their natural habitat. Your final visit of the tour will be to the San Juan Amazonian Indian Market where you can shop for souvenirs before transferring back to the airport in Iquitos for your flight to Lima. Arrival to Lima and transfer to your hotel, the Marriott.

Day 6. LIMA - CUZCO (All meals)

After breakfast, with boarding passes in hand, you will be driven to the airport for your quick-check-in and brief one hour flight to Cuzco, the ancient Inca capital of the Incas. In Cuzco, you will be warmly welcomed and assisted with your luggage before your short private drive to the exclusive deluxe five star Palacio Nazarenas Hotel.

Welcome drink and check-in to your room which will be oxygenated to help you relax and sleep more comfortably in the high altitude setting of Cuzco (11,600ft above sea level).

Some time to relax before a recommended light lunch in the hotel restaurant.

In the early afternoon, you will be met by our leading tour guide of Cuzco, Jaime Vasquez who with over 20 years of experience will guide you on an incredible tour of Cuzco including the Qoricancha temple or temple of the Sun, the Inca fortress of Sacsayhuaman overlooking Cuzco city, Qenko, Tambomachay and Puka Pukara. Your private driver will be with you at all times as you visit each part of this fascinating and ancient city. Return to the hotel in the evening. For dinner, we have suggested the marvelous Gourmet MapCafe restaurant a short walk from your hotel.

Day 7. SACRED VALLEY (Breakfast and dinner)

Today is a fun adventure day for the whole family. We can offer horse riding, ATV (all-terrain vehicle) driving, mountain-biking, white-water rafting or a zip lining. Please let us know your preferred choice for us to confirm availability. All adventure tours are the same price.

Return to your hotel in Cuzco and enjoy a folkloric show with dinner this evening.

Day 8. CUZCO - MACHU PICCHU (All meals)

Today you will have an early start and enjoy breakfast before your private chauffeur will take you to Poroy Railway Station in time for the boarding of the Luxury Hiram Bingham train to Aguas Calientes. The train will depart at 09.00am for the 3 ½ hour journey and you will enjoy the company of fellow travellers and guides onboard this luxury train complete with 1920s styled Pullman carriages. Each carriage has been furnished in polished wood and brass with large comfortable armchairs.

The bar car is the perfect place to enjoy a cocktail accompanied by live Peruvian music. On the way to Machu Picchu, the bartender will show you how to make a traditional Pisco Sour. The observation car is furnished with large cushioned seats, making it the perfect place to sit, relax and watch the Peruvian landscape unfold as you gently ride towards Machu Picchu. A hearty brunch will be served on-board before you arrive to Aguas Calientes train station, gateway to the lost city of the Incas.

As you disembark, you will be assisted with your luggage and check-in to your hotel. Welcome and check in to your room. Take the short walk to the bus terminal for the short ride up to Machu Picchu which will meander through breathtaking mountain scenery up to the ancient Inca citadel. Shortly after, your guide Jaime will again lead you on a private guided tour of Machu Picchu, the most spectacular ancient city in the world. Built by the Inca Pachacutec, and comprising stone blocks fitted with masterful precision, Machu Picchu harmoniously blends into the mountain landscape. There are many theories as to the origins behind Machu Picchu but three of the most popular ideas include a temple to the sun, a fortress against the jungle inhabitants or a sanctuary for the Incas. This fabulous city has houses, temples, warehouses, a large central square, all connected by narrow roads and steps, and is surrounded by terraces cut into the mountain side which were used for agriculture. Dinner and accommodation at your selected Hotel.

Day 9. MACHU PICCHU - CUZCO (All meals)

Today you will enjoy a free day in Machu Picchu with an opportunity to see the site at sunrise or if you prefer climb to the top of Wayna Picchu. Let Machu Picchu unfold all its mysteries for you, take in the breathtaking cloud forests and jagged mountains, or marvel at the extraordinary Masonic precision of the ancient Incas. Either way, your day of self discovery will be a day never to be forgotten. Lunch at the Sanctuary Lodge. Afternoon tea will be served before taking the private Hiram Bingham bus down to Aguas Calientes in time for the return Luxury Hiram Bingham train to Cuzco. You will enjoy dinner and cocktails onboard before arriving back to Cuzco. Welcome and private drive back to your hotel, the exclusive deluxe five star Palacio Nazarenas Hotel.
